Bring A Rustic Look to Your Home   by Valerie

It is simple to have a rustic looking home with the use of iron décor. Decorative items such as corbels, iron brackets, iron handles and iron bath accessories bring back a look of a time long ago. Decorative items for the rustic home can be found in a wide selection of designs and various types of iron. Ironwork furniture and accessories can be found for every room in the home to provide a rustic décor look.

Any home looks fantastic with wood shelving. Wood shelving works great for books, collectible displays and storage of entertainment equipment. Homeowners can use highly decorative iron corbels as brackets for the wood shelving in their rustic design homes. These brackets are available in many different scroll patterns to individualize each room of the house. No two rooms will need to look the same with the use of corbels to create a rustic look. The brackets can be purchased online or at brick-and-mortar stores.

Iron brackets should be sturdy and well-made. They will vary in sizes from about five inches to 24 inches. They can be used to frame doorways or windows. Larger iron brackets can support counter-tops or fireplace mantels. Small brackets can be used on shelving. The brackets can be made from wrought iron, forged iron or cast iron. The rustic look can be extended outside the home by using the brackets with porch posts and window boxes.

Use rustic décor in the bedroom to create a rustic design. Use iron bed frames or headboards with fancy scroll work. Set some iron accent tables by the bed. Have an iron quilt or blanket stand for storage. Place iron wall sconces for candles in the bedroom for romantic lighting. Use iron scroll design lamps on the accent tables. Add a standing full size iron framed mirror to the corner of the bedroom.

Further enhancements of décor are available to create a rustic feeling in the home with the use of iron handles, pulls and knobs. Designs for various types of handles are created to look like branches, knots, leaves, pinecones and twists. They can be used on kitchen cabinets, doors, bureau or desk drawers and other items that have handles, pulls or knobs. Place a wrought iron chandelier above the dining room table. Use dining room tables and chairs that have iron accents.

Extend the rustic design to the bathroom with the use of iron bath accessories. Iron handles can be used on the doors and cabinets in the bathroom. Find a cast iron clawfoot bathtub. Hang a wrought iron framed mirror in the bathroom. Add iron towel bars to the walls or a free standing towel rack. Use an iron wastebasket and toilet paper holder. Use iron clothes hooks on the walls to hang a bathrobe.

Iron decorative items can be used throughout the home and outdoors to create a rustic look. The decorative items are available in many different styles and designs for an individualized appearance.
