Do I need a small Business license in Maine for selling handmade goods?

I make rustic furniture items, and sell a few on my deck in the summer, I declare the money as income on my taxes, but somebody told me I should get a license to sell. the income is between $500-$3000 a year.
I should say that i don’t run a store. I don’t price anything, I have alot of tourist traffic, and sometimes people inquire, and if they make a good offer I sell. I’m not trying to run it as a buisiness.

I wouldn’t think so. Like a small farmstand, most people do not have them. I would say that you are being overly honest by claiming this money as income. I sell vegetables and wooden furniture that I make from the lawn outside my house in the summer and that money all goes right in my pocket- Uncle Sam nor Baldacci gets any of it!
